About Sensei Sue

I began my martial arts journey about 15 years ago. After initially enrolling my son to learn karate, I eventually gave it a go myself and fell in love with it. I began my journey in traditional karate at a well-established and respected local martial arts club. I volunteered during classes and helped with fund-raising for the club.

During my time there, I achieved my 2nd Dan in Traditional Karate. I also trained and graded to various levels in Ju-Jitsu, Kickboxing, and in the use of weapons such as Kama, Nunchaku, Bo, and Katana.

I have competed in several local and national competition tournaments, in both Traditional Karate Kata forms and Freestyle forms, in both open hand and weapons categories. I achieved a lot while competing, taking away gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Alongside my martial arts accomplishments, I am a qualified Teaching Assistant, working in primary schools and providing 1-to-1 support for children with Autism and ADHD. I'm also certified to Level 2 as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and have completed the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association SENCO course

During my time at my former karate club, I ran Traditional Karate classes, Children’s Freestyle Karate classes, and Weapons Training classes as a recognised, paid instructor.

Seeing students' growth and confidence blossom through the discipline and focus of karate has been incredibly rewarding for me. This experience inspired me to set up my own club, giving me the freedom to focus on individual students, run a club that has community at its heart, and organise local events and fund-raisers.

While financial sustainability is essential for the club, my true passion lies in fostering the growth of my students. Therefore, I am committed to investing as much as possible back into the dojo, ensuring the children have exceptional resources and opportunities. Their learning and achievements are my ultimate reward, and I feel immense pride in their progress.
